Meet Dawn Holden, a global volunteer

Dawn's volunteering has taken her on global village trips to Ethiopia, El Salvador, India, Jordan and Bolivia.
Dawn Holden, Banner Bank Mortgage Team

Dawn joined Banner in 2018 to head our Mortgage Consumer Direct program, which assists existing and new clients including Bank employees. The Senior Vice President began her banking career in the mid-1990s, and has served many roles including teller, underwriter, loan officer and branch manager. At one point she realized, “I love numbers and helping people.”

Describing herself as a servant-leader, Dawn said, “My job is to serve my team.”

That includes eliminating roadblocks and helping her group better serve colleagues and clients at the bank. It also means supporting her nine team members in achieving their personal and professional goals.

“I like to educate, inspire and encourage individuals to exceed their own expectations,” she said.

While the Bank encourages employees to volunteer by offering paid time to do so, Dawn’s 250-plus hours go above and beyond. So when does this working mother of five find time to volunteer? Weekends, mornings, evenings, and even her lunch hour.

In eight years on the board of Habitat Portland Metro East, she’s held leadership positions, including chair, vice chair and secretary. Her 14 years supporting Habitat began with coordinating food donations for work crews and expanded to hands-on building and teaching people how to use construction tools. It’s also taken her on global village trips to Ethiopia, El Salvador, India, Jordan and Bolivia.

“I always have time to volunteer,” she said. “I think we need more neighbors helping neighbors.”
